Ah Orh Seafood Restaurant oyster omelette
Budget?
$13 Where? Blk 115 Jalan Bukit Merah #01-1627 Opening hours: 11am – 2pm, 530pm – 9pm daily Tel: 62757575 Rating : 8.4/10 |
Ah Orh seafood restaurant sells very old school type of Teochew cuisine, but today I'm going to talk only about their oyster omelette.
Going at a price of $13, it is on the more expensive side as compare to the rest. Just take a look at the picture, the huge serving of oysters spread over the egg omelette...wow. I just want to sink my teeth into the oysters and feel them bursting their juices in my mouth..YUMMY! The egg omelette also doesn’t use starch at all, resulting in a particularly purist kind of oyster omelette. |
Ah hwee BBQ Chicken & spring chicken

$4.50/$5.50/$6.50 Where? 531A Upper Cross Street, #02-57/58, 051531 Opening Hours: Mon to Fri 10am-9pm Sat & Sun: 8am-9pm Ratings:8.6/10 |
It was a late lunch on a Sunday that I decided to visit Hong Lim Food Centre to see what I can try this time.
The aroma of curry hit my nostril when I was making my way from the car park to the food centre. Following the aroma, it led me to a long queue of people in front of this stall. It won the Michelin award in 2016 and with all the reviews on the stall and online, I decided to give it a shot. I ordered a $6.50 bee hoon mee with chicken thigh. The bee hoon and mee is just right in size and in texture. The chicken thigh is soft and full of flavour. The soup is the most awesome piece in this puzzle. The really soft potatoes that soaked up the curry are so easy to be addicted to. Damn...this will be on my to go list when my craving kicks in. |
alif nasi padang @ aljunied
Budget?
$2.50 onwards Where? #01-40, Block 107, Aljunied Avenue 2 Market & Food Centre, Singapore. Ratings:7.7/10 |
This stall was recommended by a friend when we stopped over for lunch. It is hidden in the middle row so if you dont walk around, you would not be able to notice it.
The mee soto is one of the more popular dish. The soup is of the right consistency, generous serving of the shredded chicken and the star of all is the chilli that they served with it. Wow, the spiciness the chilli adds just blow your mind away. Add in 1 or 2 begadils to make the whole dish super wholesome. |

The spring chicken was fried to golden perfection and the chicken meat was really fresh.
The coleslaw was light and fresh and the fries were better than those from some fast food restaurants. The Chicken Gravy complemented the fried chicken so well and completely elevated the taste. It made it slightly saltier, but the gravy coats the chicken to produce a richer taste. This is definitely a great place to go for if you are craving for fried chicken and some say it is even better than KFC! |

Fried oyster omelette lovers...this is a must try. I have been patronising this stall since I was a little boy. Fallen in love with this stall ever since and having a plate is a weekly ritual.
The eggs and flour are a good consistency and the crisp is just right. The oysters are fresh and burst in every bite. Prepare to go early to catch them before they close. The queue can be quite a wait. |

I feel it in my fingers.....i feel it in my toes.....its soooo wet for char kway teow. I dont mean its bloody noodle soup slurping wet but for in the world of char kway teow this one is a fish in the wet ocean.
Its delicious. very generous with their cockles and chinese sausage. However i find their serving size too small. For a man who loves food i find their portion too much to be wanting for more Normally two plates of $3 should be the same as a $5 plate....however i felt my $5 plate had the quantity of $3.70 |

Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice offers some of the best Chinese and Hainanese cuisine in Singapore, serving a tantalising collection of dishes that are suitable for catching up with friends and colleagues.
The pork and chicken chop are the star dishes over there. While ordering, you get to see the guy cutting up almost anything you order with a pair of scissors. Yes...even the egg. The pork and chicken chops are coated and deep fried to a golden crisp. With all the various sauces drizzling over your plate of rice, it doesnt really look appetizing but trust me, the food is awesome. Try their Chicken Cutlet and Pork Chop curry. To our review team these two dishes made an impact. Not only is the chicken crispy but the gravy was simply heavenly. All dishes are served piping hot and fresh. |

This store is specialised in their chicken. Go straight for their orders on chicken both white and dark chicken. The chili is the ultimate dip for chicken meat. As what every chicken rice lover knows, it all comes down to the chili. The Cze Char dishes are all tasty but like what i said earlier....go for their chicken. In my opinion their chicken is their speciality. You will remember five star only for their chicken and their chicken alone.s The staff there are friendly and very efficient. |

Shaped like a UFO, this traditional Fuzhou snack is made from oysters, flour, peanuts, chinese parsley.
The normal oyster cake costs $1.80 each and consists of 1 prawn while the oyster cake with extra ingredients costs $2.30 each and consists of 2 prawns. You can differentiate them as the normal one has either ikan billis or peanuts on the exterior while the oyster cake with extra ingredients has both ikan billis and peanuts on the exterior. Each mouthful gives a burst of savoury flavours and different textures – fluffiness from the pancake and crunchiness from the ikan bilis and peanuts and juiciness from the fresh and plump oysters. |

The smooth, velvety porridge is another attraction. It goes very well with the thick gravy...so if you are looking for something to warm your tummy to bed, I would recommend this. |

Tried both the white and black version at Hock Soon. Both are equally awesome. The black version is well coated with a sweet and savoury black sauce which is well balanced. Both versions are cooked in batches making it turn over fast and still retaining the crunchy bites of the chye poh....yummy! Definitely a must try for carrot cake lovers! |

This carrot cake stall only sells white version of the carrot cake. So those who like the sweet sauce, blacken type will have to check else where.
I like the fact that they make their own kueh using their special recipe. The chucks of kueh are very flavorful, with a strong garlicky aroma and fragrance of fish sauce. The generous amount of chai poh studded throughout the cake gives a sweetness that complements the savoriness perfectly. The kueh are fried and sealed together with ample amount of eggs which are then cooked till charred and crispy making it so addictive. Be prepare to queue for a while for this wonderful dish. Definitely thumb-up! |

Recently I had a craving for chicken cutlet curry noodle, so went about searching. Found this stall-Jiji wanton noodle specialist in Hong Lim Food Centre.
The first thing that attracted me was the pile of fried chicken cutlet. Wow...each of them is so thick! Thicker than those I normally see. So I ordered a $6 chicken cutlet curry noodle. When I received the slightly oval shaped bowl from the lady with the stylish golden hair, Lo and behold...where is the noodle?? All I see is fried chicken cutlet. i thought I ordered wrongly, but when I dug down, the noodle was below the stack of meat. They give so much meat! The cutlet is crispy and tasty. It tastes even better when soak in the curry gravy... This is a definite stall to go to for those after chicken cutlet. Their wanton noodle is another hit. |

The first time I ordered I had the Mee Pok with Chili. It was simply delicious and beat most other Mee Pok stores around Singapore hands down. Even as I type this review around lunch, I find myself still thinking lovingly of the taste. Tell you what, get off the seat and just go there and order your Mee Pok and you will know the feeling of addiction. Yummy! |

The crispy shrimp fritter, soft heavenly beancurd or tau kwa, special carrot cake, crunchy fishball and the fragrance prawn rolls or sausage were delectable and went well with the complimenting chili sauce. The prices are very reasonable, no wonder the queue is there. Will definitely go back for them whenever my craving hits. |

kim keat hokkien mee
Budget:$4 onwards
Location:Toa Payoh Lor 4, Blk 92 #01-264, Singapore 31009 (10-15 min walk from Bradell MRT) Opening hours:11:30am – 9:30pm (Mon), 11:30am – 9:30pm (Wed-Sun), Closed Tues |
Creating a twist to the common hokkien mee, Kim Keat Hokkien Mee came up with the claypot version.
This cauldron of noodles was served to us piping hot and bubbling, with chock-full of ingredients. Prawns, sotong, bits of egg, bean sprouts, clams, sliced pork belly and deep-fried pork belly, along with noodles, made up this dish. The noodles took on a strong wok hei fragrance; the strands of yellow mee and white bee hoon were mixed with scrambled egg and coated in a slightly starchy gravy. The gravy had enough body to cling onto the noodles without being too jelak, and this made each strand of noodle silky and effortless to eat. The bean sprouts also imparted crunch to the dish. Instead of the usual deep-fried lard, Kim Keat’s Claypot Hokkien Mee features a generous helping of deep-fried pork belly. Despite going through the fryer, each piece of pork belly still managed to retain three distinct layers – tender meat, juicy fats, and crispy crackling skin. |

One of the famous Hokkien mee mentioned online really lives up to its name. This is the dry version with the best combination of the bee hoon and the other ingredients. The cut chilli goes very well with the noodle making it the best combo.
Every time I go there for supper, I would definitely order the pipping hot hokkien mee and gobble it all in a jiffy! |

Review:
The portion of Hump and lard is super generous. It kind of gives me the impression that this dish was not created with the health conscious in mind. It was instead created with mindset to conquer, to be the best and hell with healthy eating. To be fair i think the long queues speak for itself and I would certainly go again for my CKT fix. |

A very unique taste for this special curry fish head. It has the nonya mixed with Indian style of cooking.
The Sea Bream head is used in this dish and it is huge! There are lots of lady fingers, brinjal and pineapple The spicy, sweet and sour gravy was simply uplifting and moreish. I kept dousing my rice with the gravy and I usually slurped up every bit of the sauce, lol. It is usually packed so one has to go early to get a table. |

At Outram Park ba ku teh, they dont just sell one type of soup. A few other soups like fish slices soup, seaweed soup are also a big hit with the patrons.
The ba ku teh is the clear peppery soup based. I like to put extra pepper to make it more peppery. The fish slices are very fresh and tender and the pig intestines are soft and chewy. Very awesome meal for a rainy day or any day that you crave for something soupy... |

pontian wanton mee
Budget ?
$3.50 onward. where? can be found at most coffeeshops and food courts Rating : 7.7/10 |
The noodles are all handmade and they have the QQ or springy bite to it. I love the various type of sauces which they created.
For chilli lovers like myself, I always go for the 3 in 1 sauce. The cha sui is very lean which is good for those who are cutting down on fatty stuff. The dumplings especially the fried version is a hit with all wanton mee lovers. Usually i will order another 14 cause it tastes so good!! |
ramen champion
Budget ?
$12-15 per meal with drink. Meals are cooked piping hot. where? 65 Airport Boulevard, Singapore 819663. Terminal 3 singapore changi airport. Basement 2. Rating : 7.1/10 |
Review :
The ramen comes in spice star choices from 1 star to 5 star. 2 star is spicy enough for my Singaporean tastebuds but who am i to judge you. I have seen some friends order 5 stars and drink only 2 spoon of soup not even touching the rest. The noodles are freshly cooked the moment you order. The chef will take your order and issue you a number. He will then cook and serve you. You only pay when you have had your fill. You go to the cashier and every order made on your tag will be billed and paid for. Certainly NOT the best Ramen place but certainly a huge value for money especially if you are a changi rewards member. You get points to spend and eat your meal. |
River South Prawn Mee
Budget ?
$5 onwards. where? 31 Tai Thong Cres, Singapore 347859 Rating : 7.4/10 |
River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles is one of the better prawn noodles in Singapore. Nothing beats a good bowl of scrumptious broth, with one that is amazingly prepared from the richness of seafood prawn essence! The broth itself is complemented with the fragrance of crispy shallots & bean sprouts to produce a medium richness of fresh prawn essence that is not too overwhelming.
The soup is so awesome that one can finish every single drop. Throw in some cut chillies for those who want an extra kick. |

I have been patronising this stall since I was in secondary school. The lor mee is my favourite. The fried fish, bean sprouts and chicken chop(add-on) make the bowl of lor mee super filling...im a big eater.
Add more chilli and vinegar(the uncle has a bottle of vinegar on the table for self adding) is a must...making it hot and sour. The chicken chop noodle is another hit. The chop is huge! $4 for a big piece of crispy fried chicken chop plus noodle...wow. Be prepared for the lunch crowd and the parking around the area is a bit of a challenge, so go there before the crowd! |

This yong tau foo stall sells only soup based set items. This is great for those who are health conscious, looking for soupy items.
The freshly made yong tau foo pieces are all made on the same day right before the stall opens. Yong Xiang Xing's light broth is a winner. Despite it's clear looks, the soup has a nice natural mild tasting savoury sweet flavour that is quite addictive. It's main ingredients are stock (pork) bone and soy beans. Just a light puff of white pepper powder and no flavour boosters like MSG. |
